The count circle includes the Chiricahua Mountains from Portal to Rustler and Barfoot Parks and the SW Research Station. In 2023 the Portal count recorded 83 species which was one of the highest counts in the nation.

Overall, our totals were pretty good this year. Surprisingly so, based on a lack of nectar, especially in the lower elevations. 76 species is very presentable, though. Only 4 shy of Patagonia this year! We've only beat them once, in 2023, with 83 species, which was the highest count in the nation! Fourteen Individuals in 5 parties found and identified:
